Flamingo Gujarat
Bulletin of Gujarat Birds, is a quarterly newsletter of Bird Conservation Society, Gujarat (BCSG), dedicated to ornithology of the state. It serves as a vital source of information for the members and bird enthusiasts, featuring articles, covering various aspects of Gujarat’s avian fauna.
The newsletter publishes a diverse range of articles, including short notes, field surveys, important sightings, species profiles, research articles, conservation initiatives, avian ecology, ethology and so on. Contributions from students, researchers, faculties, NGOs and birdwatchers are welcome, with a focus on avian information restricted to Gujarat state.
‘Bird Conservation Society, Gujarat’ (BCSG), founded in 2002 by Dr. Bakul Trivedi and Dr. B. M. Parasharya, is committed to conservation of birds through field research, documentation, training, awareness activities, and networking with like-minded NGOs. As the only statewide network of bird-watchers, ornithologists, and conservationists in Gujarat, BCSG plays a pivotal role in advocating conservation activities for birds and their habitats.
The original version of ‘Flamingo’ publication commenced in 2003 and continued for nearly seven years until 2010. It was edited by Dr. B. M. Parasharya and Dr. Bakul Trivedi. After a five year lapse, it was revived in a vibrant colour format in 2015. It was then edited by Dr. Bakul Trivedi and Prasad Ganpule.
‘FLAMINGO Gujarat’ represents a change in the title, in attempt to get the magazine registered under Registrar of News papers and periodicals, Gov. of India. Failing in the attempt we decided to go online from printed version. Transitioning from print media to online e-print was done in 2018 with the same Title. This shift was also initiated for other reasons like, cutting on the expenditure, going with an eco-friendly trend and enhance accessibility for readers. During the year 2023, all 4 issues were edited by guest editor Dr. Rajubhai Vyas. From 2024 onwards it’s being edited by the team comprised by Dr. Bakul Trivedi and Devvratsinh Mori.
